Lizard Island Resort | Great Barrier Reef
Lizard Island is a unique vacation destination to discover as it’s located within 1000 hectares of the National Park and bordered by 24 private fine sand beaches. Lizard Island is Australia's northernmost island, located on the Great Barrier Reef at 240 km north of Cairns.
The island can be reached by a scenic one-hour flight from Cairns or by a flight over the breathtaking Great Barrier Reef and landing on the island's private airstrip.
This area was discovered by Captain James Cook in 1770 when his ship, the Endeavour,
ran aground on a nearby coral reef. The crew spent almost two months on the island repairing the damaged ship. As he wanted to leave a mark on the island, Cook named it "Cook's passage" and "Cook's look." and named the island “Lizard Island," in honor of the lizards that lived there.
The island offers only 40 modern and spacious villas with stunning ocean views, each with terrace and some with private pools, top quality amenities and high-tech facilities with air conditioning, plasma TV, sound system with Bluetooth connection, gourmet minibar stocked up daily and evening turndown.
The "all-inclusive gourmet" formula includes the following services:
- Daily gourmet meals that can be customized as desired
- Unlimited soft drinks
- A fine selection of wine, beer, basic spirits and Spumante
- In-room minibar, stocked up daily
- Deluxe picnic baskets for private beach dates
- Access to a private motorized dinghy to reach the island's 24 deserted beaches
- Unlimited use of stand-up paddle boards
- Unlimited use of clear-bottom kayaks
- Snorkeling equipment for the entire duration of your stay
Whether you want to relax and enjoy the peaceful or seek adventure, Lizard Island offers it all. Surrounding this Marine National Park are unmatched diving and snorkeling opportunities, where you can admire coral gardens and brightly colored tropical fish.
Fishing lovers can rent the "Fascination" for day of sport fishing. During this activity, you can learn about natural marine life from experienced researchers at the Research Station, an Australian Museum facility.
At Lizard Island you may experience an authentic culinary journey with the several dining options. Saltwater is a unique restaurant, where its outdoor area creates an extension of the stunning surroundings. The menu changes every day and features the best local ingredients, especially exotic seafood. On the other hand, the Marlin Bar offers a more casual setting, with a menu made of burgers and pizzas. The resort's lounge, Driftwood Bar and Wine Cellar, is open all day. The wide beverage list includes local and international wines, beers, spirits and classic and customized cocktails.
